  • Mary Giacalone is a guest speaker at Durham College for the Sports & Leisure graduating classes.
  • Mary has worked with Hockey Canada teaching power skating at the U-18 May Strength and Conditioning camp held in Hamilton Ontario, Canada.
  • Mary Giacalone runs off season development power skating sessions for the Flint Firebirds  the  in the OHL.
  • 2017 Finalist in the #FabAwards celebrating women entrepreneurs in North America.

Hockey News:

  • Mary is in charge of writing the lessons plans, staffing, and running all power skating programs for all the male/female hockey organizations as well as the Ringette associations that use Scary Skate services.
  • Bi-annually Mary runs a national staffing event keeping all her staff up to date with the latest teaching methods. She trains her instructors on the skating treadmills and camps and clinics they participate in.
  • Mary is a certified coach mentor in the area of skating through Hockey Canada.

 

When Not On The Ice:
You will find me preparing amazing dinner’s, practicing for Masterchef Canada or gardening outdoors.

What I Stand For:
Not only do I love the game, I love the intricacies of how skating technique and hockey skills can be intertwined. What I love most is being part of a community and a professional coaching team that transcends all that is great about this game. I'm honoured to be part of the Scary Skate team and the values we instil in our instructors and students. 

The lessons we teach and live by in our programs are not just hockey lessons, they are life lessons; respect, hard work, determination and perseverance.

As a Coach and Co-Owner it is my intent to instil all of these principles in our instructors, students and parents.

I have been working with Scary Skate since 2011. I am Hockey Canada HP1 certified and have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography.
